Spring is coming!
I know that it might not look like it today where you live, But as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, one day soon spring will have arrived!
When you think of spring, what do you think of?
- Daffodils sprouting up through the last of the snow?
- The first robin delivering his long-awaited song?
- The smell of freshly cut grass or
- Just the ability to sit outside and to not need a nose muffler to stay warm?
Each year, all around the world people rise up in the celebration of spring. There’s just something about the newness of this season that brings hope and a renewed freshness to life.
The Colors of Provence
Here in southern France, spring is glorious! But may I say it looks just a little different, than where you might live. The color hues can be slightly more muted in tone, but no less beautiful to the soul. Famous artists like VanGogh and Cézanne spent hours trying to capture its beauty on canvas. And even though their masterpieces are striking, as a bystander I have to admit, real life is even more stunning!
I thought today I would take you on a pictorial walk through spring in southern France. Just remember though, you might just need to experience it in real life!
Trivia: What are the first signs of spring to those living in southern France?
(hint: As a woman who’s birth name is the same as a spring bird found in some parts of the world, let me give you a hint and say that this bird will not be the answer.) 😉
Answer: the native red poppy! Once we see the first red poppy, we know spring has arrived in all it’s glory!
Stayed tuned for one of my first faux pas’ regarding this annual flower.
I still cringe thinking of my naïveté, yet good-intentioned actions!
